About This Website

On this page you’ll find information about the purposes of this website, a disclaimer about this website, and a little bit of information about me.

The Purposes of this Website

There are three distinct purposes for this website.

First, this website serves as a place to write in order to think and process. Much of the content on this website is writing and researching in order to process different ideas, concepts, and arguments. I have found that I think better as I try to write through issues and I gain better clarity on what I think and believe about an issue as I write through it.

Second, this website serves as an extension of my pastoral ministry. I hope this website leaves you encouraged, equipped, and blessed. I consider this website as a place for me to extend my ministry both to people within the church I pastor and to whomever else may read.

Third, this website is designed to be a place of joy. While I may write on topics in the news from time to time, I will also use this website as a place to enjoy my interests which include everything from biblical studies, theology, ministry, art, poetry, and literature.

A Disclaimer

Since this website is a place for me to think and write, a disclaimer seems appropriate. This website is a place for me to write in order to process complex and sometimes controversial topics. Many of the posts will be descriptive in nature but the fact that I am discussing something (for example, reviewing a controversial book) should be taken to be an endorsement or an expression of agreement with the claims of a book or ideology.

Also, conclusions in one post may be contradicted or changed in a later post. Falling in line with the purpose of the site, no one entry should be taken as an indication of (1) what I currently believe about a topic or (2) to be the totality of what I think about a topic.

Lastly, since this is a personal website, the opinions expressed here are mine and do not constitute an official statement on behalf of the church I pastor nor are my statements and views to be considered the views of the other elders with whom I joyfully serve. Although I hope there would not be that much discrepancy, there may inevitably be a time when my view on a minor subject should not be taken as an official statement of the church or of the elders.

About Me

My name is Jason and the most important information you need to know about me is that I have been married to my wife for fifteen years, and we have three beautiful and energetic boys.

I am currently the lead pastor of Poplar Spring Baptist Church (PSBC), a historic, Southern Baptist church located in Zebulon, NC. PSBC was constituted in 1788, which is over 230 years ago and which predates both the Southern Baptist Convention and the Civil War. To look at it from another perspective, PSBC was constituted in the same year that New Hampshire became the ninth state to ratify the Constitution and thus making the adoption of the Constitution official!

I am also PhD candidate in biblical studies at Columbia International University, focusing on the OT. I am researching and writing my dissertation on the book of Esther. I completed my ThM in preaching at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) in Fort Worth, TX, and both an MA in Old Testament and BA in Biblical Studies at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (SEBTS) in Wake Forest, NC. I have been in ministry for over 17 years, serving in various ministry roles including interim pastor, youth pastor, associate pastor, and now as lead pastor.
